Your initial appointment at Sunset Oral and Facial Surgery is structured around a thorough consultation with Dr. David Salehani, during which he reviews your dental and medical history, performs a clinical examination, evaluates any prior imaging, captures additional 3D imaging when indicated, and walks through your diagnosis and treatment options in plain language. For straightforward cases, surgery may be performed the same day as the consultation. For more complex treatment plans — or when patient health considerations require additional pre-surgical evaluation — surgery is scheduled for a separate visit, allowing time for proper preparation and informed decision-making.
Dr. David Salehani is a board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon with both a DDS and an MD, faculty at UCLA Medical Center, past president of the Beverly Hills Academy of Dentistry, and a peer review board member of the Los Angeles Dental Society for over seven years. Every new patient meets directly with Dr. Salehani at consultation — never an associate, hygienist, or treatment coordinator — so the surgeon performing your procedure is the same person evaluating you, designing your treatment plan, and personally answering your questions.
What to Bring to Your First Visit
Please bring the following items to your initial appointment:
- Surgical Referral Slip: If your referring dentist or physician has provided a referral form, please bring it with you.
- Recent Imaging: Any X-rays, CT scans, or 3D imaging from your referring provider — digital files on USB or printed images both work.
- Insurance Information: Your dental and medical insurance cards along with any required forms or pre-authorization documents.
- Current Medication List: A complete list of medications, supplements, and known allergies, including dosages.
- Photo ID: Government-issued photo identification for new patient registration.
Important Patient Policies
- Patients Under 18: All patients under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian for the consultation visit and any subsequent surgical procedures.
- Pre-Operative Evaluation for IV Anesthesia: Patients undergoing IV sedation or general anesthesia require a pre-operative consultation and physical examination prior to the day of surgery — this is mandatory and ensures patient safety throughout the procedure.
- Same-Day Surgery: When same-day surgery is scheduled, a responsible adult must be available to drive the patient home and remain with them for the first 24 hours.
