WHAT IS IT?
A chin implant also known as genioplasty, refers to the improvement of the contours on the face, specifically the chin, neck, and jawline. Usually, this surgical procedure involves the placement of a chin implant around the patient’s existing chin bone to adjust the size and shape of the chin. This similar procedure is done with the jawline. Implants that are placed underneath the skin typically are made of silicone or polyethylene.

What To Expect After Surgery
After any surgery, it is very common to have swelling during the healing process. Depending on your body’s reaction to surgery, staying in the hospital can vary by how many days.
The procedure will be followed by detailed doctors instruction and care information. Sometimes this will include water and food that are safe to consume on the regime that you are assigned. Painkillers will also be offered as a form of pain management after your procedure. When taking any prescribed medication, special care should be taken to follow instructions and warning signs on painkillers. Another pain management solution that can be used is a cold compress. This may also reduce swelling on your chin and jaw.
Smoking and doing strenuous activities is not good for the healing process. Another thing to consider when you are healing from your jaw and chin implants is your sleeping patterns. To minimise swelling it is important to keep your head elevated and to sleep facing up.

He received his undergraduate degree in Biochemistry with honors and his dental degree with honors from State University of New York at Stony Brook. He completed his Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery training at Long Island Jewish Medical Center. In addition to receiving a diversified maxillofacial training at LIJMC, he also earned a medical degree at Stony Brook School of Medicine. Then he went on to complete an internship in general surgery at Stony Brook University Hospital, where he was trained to manage major trauma cases.
Dr. Salehani practices a full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery including dentoalveolar surgery, facial reconstruction, orthognathic, cleft lip and palate, dental implant, and TMJ surgery.
